5 Ways To Burn More Fat!

  • My first tip is an easy one but often gets overlooked and that is to burn more calories. Yep it sounds simple but it is a MUST! I highly encourage this to be done via resistance weight training. This is the best bang for your buck activity that burns the most amount of calories. Did you know that I actually proved lifting weights is the best “ALL ROUND” way to stay fit and healthy? A few years ago I featured in the Herald Sun where I won the “overall fittest” award measuring a range of different fitness areas. Lifting weights at a high intensity is the perfect way to burn and torch fat and get that lean, muscular look – I even proved it 🙂

  • My second tip around fat loss is to eat less calories. Once again it sounds so simple but it is where so many people break down. Not sure where to start? Start off small and begin focusing simply on your portion sizes.

Below is a rough guide of how to structure your meals:

Males:

Protein: 200g – 250g

Carbs: 150g – 200g

Vegetables: 100g – 150g

Females:

Protein: 100g – 250g

Carbs: 100g – 150g

Vegetables: 50g – 100g

Also another tip when it comes to your nutrition is to aim to eat less calorie dense foods that are sky rocketing your calorie intake. Foods like avocado, nut spreads, oils, fried foods etc are filled with calories. I am not saying cut them out completely BUT they do need extra care when measuring them and must only be eaten moderation.

  • My next tip to help burn more fat is related around liquid calories. Liquid calories are the WORST. Going for a night out on the town and choosing to consume full strength beer or sugary cocktails WILL put your calorie intake through the roof. I am again not saying to cut them out completely but where people break down in this area is they aren’t smart before or after they consume these nasty calories.

  • My next tip to help burn fat is related to CARDIO. Some HATE it and some love but either way it is another tool in our belts we can use to help the leaning down process. Remember getting lean and shredded comes down to being in a negative energy balance and completing cardio (especially HIIT cardio) helps put us in a further calorie deficit in order to burn fat.

I wouldn’t implement cardio right at the beginning of your “shred” I would start with weight raining first then slowly introduce the cardio through-out which is exactly how I do it.

An example of some HIIT cardio (where you complete fast paced exercise) is where you aim to sprint for 20 seconds HARD and I mean HARD then recover jog for 40 seconds. Complete and follow this structure for 12 – 20 minutes straight depending on your fitness level. You will find much better results from these higher intensity sessions when it comes to burning fat and building that overall lean, toned look.

The benefits of this form of fast paced exercise, is your getting your heart rate really high. This means you’re burning more calories during the workout. Also once the workout is over, you will keep burning calories for many hours afterwards while it takes time to lower your heart rate back down again.

  • My last piece of advice to help torch extra fat is to take a carefully designed fat burner. Now let me be clear. If you want defined, chiseled abs the diet and training comes first. Without a doubt. In saying that though supplements do definitely help also.
