Yesterday I was asked what my TOP workouts tips would be and if I were to know ten things about training that I wish I knew when I first started what would they be? This was such a great question and really got me thinking….
Below is what I come up with!
3) Be prepared. If you aren’t prepared in your workouts you will wing them and delay the amount of progress you can make.
4) This leads me to my next tip which is to follow a structured training program. When you follow a structured training program your prepared and you can get so much more out of your workouts not to mention the progress you will make.
5) Focus on progressive overload. This at times gets swept under the rug and doesn’t get paid enough attention by most. If you want to build lean muscle, then progressive overload needs to be your best friend.
6) Never focus solely on a certain or specific rep range. That right there is how you will plateau. Mix up your programs featuring different rep ranges to ensure you build strength and overload the body yet also still focus on conditioning and shaping the muscle at the same time.
7) Focus not only on progressive overload in your sessions but also focus on the stretch, squeeze and contraction of the muscle in your working sets. When you get this down pat and you get that muscle to mind connection right this can go a long way into changing your body composition.
8) You must without question or debate have the big, main compound lifts in your sessions each and every week. Go back to the basics and foundations in progressing in the squat, bench press, dead lift and the overhead press.
9) Remain CONSISTENT. This is so damn important when it comes to training. Don’t aim to be perfect just focus all your time and energy in staying consistent and you will progress each week.
10) Focus on getting enough REST each week and never under estimate how important this is. Without adequate rest each week you will not be able to recover and progress with your weights therefore you will continue to plateau.
I think it’s really important to not over complicate things when wanting results so I hope these tips help. I really believe if you stick to them week in and week out you will not only progress and change your body but you will also stay injury free which is surely one of our all time main goals.
