Protein Powders
Protein powders are great to use for both guys and girls as they are essential for muscle repair and recovery. The common myth surrounding protein powders is that they make you “bulky” and add unwanted weight. This is all dependent on the TYPE of protein powder you choose.
Let me break them down for you.
WHEY PROTEIN POWDER
This is the most common type of protein powder used and the one you should choose if you are wanting to stay lean and toned. Having this type of protein powder will assist you in repairing and recovering your muscles after a workout. I recommend always having this with water that way it is leaner and has less calories.
For guys the traditional serving size is 2 scoops with water and for girl’s 1 – 2 scoops is fine.
CASEIN PROTEIN POWDER
Casein protein powder is another type of protein powder that you can take. This is a slow releasing protein powder that is best taken over night to help your body grow, repair and recover while you sleep. This is again to be taken with water or you can mix the powder up and stir in a bowl with a small amount of water and make a thick dessert.
If you are still hungry late at night after dinner having this mixed with water is a great substitute instead of reaching for that nasty sugary treat plus it will help you feel FULL.
WEIGHT GAIN PROTEIN POWDER
Another type of protein powder I can recommend is the mass gainer protein powder. These are mostly for guys that might be struggling to gain weight. I personally used this when I was a lot younger to assist me getting the extra calories in order to grow. These are great specifically if you are an Ectomorph body type where you might have an extremely fast metabolism therefore taking mass gainer shakes will assist you to gain weight faster.
You can have this with both water or milk and you can also add other items like peanut butter, fruit, eggs etc to add more calories to assist in the weight gaining process.
