HEALTHY TIPS FOR WHEN YOU TRAVEL

  • Wake up and do a fasted cardio walk if you can. Your body then is already burning calories before you begin your day of fun.
  •  After 15 – 20 minutes of fasted cardio, try and do 20 minutes of weights or body weight exercises if you can, keep the body guessing. If you don’t do fasted cardio aim for 45 – 60 min in the gym doing weights and/or HIIT .. or a run/fast walk/hike along the beach.
  • If you know you’re going out drinking or eating an epic dinner, go lighter on other meals and don’t snack so hard that day. Or if it’s a big lunch, choose a healthy dinner.
  • Don’t deprive yourself from enjoying the delicious food and treats, but just be smart about it. Do more exercise/cut back on heavy foods if you are planning on getting LIT or being in a food coma.
  • Alcohol is filled with calories. Especially sugary cocktails. If you have to drink, aim for a vodka soda. Choose wisely. Be educated in your drink choice.
  • Drink lots of water – more than normal. Ask for lemon at restaurants and add it to your water. Hot water and lemon is so good in the morning to flush out toxins and water that may be held from the airplane ride.
  • Move your body when you can. Take the stairs. Go for a swim. Do squats when you are brushing your teeth. Walk instead of Uber/taxi etc.
  • When possible, choose meals at a restaurant that are filled with wholefoods and nutritious ingredients. Fresh produce filled with vitamins and minerals will keep you full longer and give your body the fuel you need to take on the days ahead with energy. You want to get the most out of your holiday.
  • Download the app My Fitness Pal. You can keep an eye on your calorie intake for the day so you don’t spill too far over – if you do, then you can have a healthier lunch the next day. It is a great way to track your food and stay accountable.
  • Let go of the guilt. You are on holidays! Don’t beat yourself up if you have a really bad day of eating. Enjoy ice-cream with your loved ones and the local cuisine. Just know that you can make healthier choices the next time ‘round!
