We all know the feeling…. We are a little hungry or we may have had some specific food cravings and before we know it we have blacked out and consumed way too much food. It all starts with one bite and before we know it we have gone way over board. It happens to ALL of us!
So, what happens from here? What is the best thing to do to ensure no further damage is done and we continue back on the right path?
Below are my top tips on what to do:
1. My first tip is to not beat yourself up. This is a HUGE one. This is the worst possible thing you can do. Simply accept what has happened and move on. Beating yourself up will only make things worse and in turn could lead to further binge eating.
2. My next tip and an important one is to start fresh and begin with a very “clean” meal the very next meal. After binge eating and going off track we can feel like rubbish so it’s very important to get straight back on the horse with the very next meal.
3. Another important tip related to over eating is EXERCISE. If you have over eaten, then moving your body that day OR the very next day is important to burn calories. Now in saying that I want to make it clear to not over do it here. It is not safe to go crazy doing endless hours of exercise to make up for it. What I mean here is to get back into your training the next day and get yourself moving. This will not only help you burn calories but also help you feel great.
4. My next tip is related to hydration and water. If we did binge eat on nasty foods more likely than not those foods will be ridden with sugar and salt. Flushing it out with lots of water that day and the next will help you get back on track and feeling great.
5. My next tip is an important one. DON’T STARVE YOURSELF AFTER! I think this is one a lot of people do to think they are doing their body good to make up for the calories. This isn’t the case at all. Starving yourself after will only create further issues and encourage a negative relationship with food. As stated in tip #2 the best thing to do is to get straight back onto a healthy, clean, nutritious meal filled with a protein source, carbohydrates and steamed vegetables within a few hours which will have you feeling great again – that I can GUARANTEE!
I hope these tips helps guys! Remember if you do fall off track it doesn’t make you a bad person it makes you HUMAN!
