We all know the drill…

We are a little peckish in the late afternoon and before we know it half the pantry is gone and we feel sluggish and terrible about ourselves.

Let’s discuss some sustainable strategies to stop these food cravings and to help stay on track:

1. DRINK MORE WATER! This is a big one not only to help with cravings but to be healthier in general. Always aim to drink at least 3-4 liters of water per day. A good tip is to buy a bigger drink bottle and to have it with you at all times. This saves you having to fill it up all the time and you can even set reminders in your phone to drink more. What ever it takes!

2. EAT MORE OFTEN! I think starving ourselves or feeling extremely “hungry” is detrimental. When we skip meals and we are really, really hungry we are ten time more likely to cheat and blow out on nasty calories. I think what works best from my experience is to eat more often so every few hours which then helps curbs the hunger and will then ultimately stop you from craving and over indulging. 3. VARIETY! This is a big one. If you have variety in your foods each day and each week then you will be satisfying your taste buds and then in turn you won’t be looking to over eat on other foods you might be craving. Get some variety into your week and get creative in the kitchen.

4. SUPPLEMENTS! Using and taking some supplements are a great way to help you stay on track and to curb your cravings. For example the protein mousse by Ultimate Performance Supplements (UPS) is a perfect example. You can mix this with water and get a fluffy, tasty protein mousse out of it that is packed with flavor and at half the calories of other nasty, processed foods. By also taking protein shakes this can also give you the fix of “chocolate” at half the amount of calories.

5. SLEEP! I know myself that if I am tired I am WAY more likely to crave junk food. If you’re getting a solid sleep each night then you feel more focused and driven. Make sure you aim to get a solid 7 – 8 hours sleep at night if you can as this will definitely help with those food cravings.

I hope these tips help you curb those food cravings and help you stay on track 🙂
